Because of growing interest in Greek as a foreign language, the modernization of its teaching practice is necessary. Two new and in several respects remarkable text books, namely Pame! (CEF A1) and Jassu! (CEF A1-2), published in Germany for adult learners, follow the latest principles of foreign language didactics by: a) varying the drawing of the pages; b) using a variety of non-textual materials and authentic elements and c) effectively integrating the teaching of grammar into situations of communication. They suggest ways of task-based learning and present varied activities covering all four language skills trying above all to promote learner autonomy.
