This study was applied on Palestinian students learning French as a second foreign language in a BA program for future teachers of the language. It aims at identifying the nature and the origins of learning difficulties encountered by these students in learning French. This article focuses specifically on “reading aloud” as a learning strategy deemed “inappropriate” for understanding written documents in French. This practice proved to be a source of learning difficulties encountered by the students of French. To better understand this concept, we inquire about its origins, its functions and its influence on learning by adopting a dual approach: linguistic and socio-cultural.
