Abstract

Are our dialects becoming one and the same, are they losing their character? The author answers these questions using examples from the Rhine Valley region near Chur. In his study, he shows which pressures are placed on the local “exotic” dialects and discusses which elements have become prominent in the newly developed regional dialect as well as how this dialect differs from other Swiss dialects.
