Résumé

In some German states, new models for schooling newly immigrated children and adolescents have been assessed and developed further during the last fifteen years, while in other states, such as Hessen, there are almost no systematic experiences. In a project seminar at the University of Kassel, we investigated two best practice schools in Schleswig-Holstein and Bavaria and compared our observations to two schools in Hessen. The Dannewerkschule in Schleswig, a comprehensive school with a center for German as a Second Language, strives to integrate newly immigrated pupils into regular classes. In the Städtische Schule zur Berufsintegration in Munich, adolescent refugees are prepared for vocational training in a segregated school. In this paper, we summarize the central concepts and principles that in our opinion lead to the success of both schools. And we believe that some of these ideas can be implemented in other schools - despite limited resources.
