When reading Catullus, the use of foreign-language song lyrics, films and vide-os to explore ancient motifs considers different learning styles and strengthens motivation regarding the individual language proficiency levels within the learning group. Thanks to the intersubjective potential of Catullus’ carmina, learners have the opportunity to reflect on their own notions of love and partnership as well as on personal love stories. Ancient texts can therefore be identified by students not only as timeless but also as personally meaningful. The song lyrics and other material must first be selected by the teacher and analyzed in terms of didactics and meth-odology, e.g. for comparisons or contrasts with the ancient texts and with the aim of encouraging students to automatically engage with the Quid ad nos? Such inter-disciplinary Latin lessons contribute perpetually to the legitimacy of the subject.
