Abstract

The thematic part of this issue is different from the usual thematic sections in Babylonia: instead of focusing on a specific topic it is devoted to the work of the European Centre for Modern Languages in Graz. This centre, which was created under the aegis of the Council of Europe in 1995, has obtained a solid reputation among the members of the language teaching profession in Europe over the past 12 years. The ECML and Babylonia share the same interest in the promotion of plurilingualism and intercultural understanding and the dissemination of innovative language teaching and learning practices. The resources of the ECML, together with recent issues of Babylonia, form a wealth of background articles, concrete suggestions and materials for multilingual and intercultural language teacher education.
